Leslie Garis’s New York Times Review - teaches creative writing for Art Workshop International

February 17th, 2008

Noted memoirist Leslie Garis wrote HOUSE OF HAPPY ENDINGS about growing up in a family where “good is happy; a happy person is good.” Needless to say, that wasn’t how it really was for her family. Life became even more complicated when her grandfather, the noted author of UNCLE WIGGILY stories, and reclusive grandmother moved in. HOUSE OF HAPPY ENDINGS was picked by William Grimes of the New York Times as a Notable Book for 2007. Here is a direct link to his review, and a link to his Notable Books 2007 list. Art Workshop International is looking forward to her creative writing class on Memoir from August 6 to 20, 2008, in Assisi, Italy.

Edith Isaac-Rose in Corner Exhibit - Copenhagen, Denmark

February 15th, 2008

Art Workshop International director Edith Isaac-Rose exhibited her latest works, which I would describe as “not your Grandmother’s embroideries.” Her potent images echo some of the themes in recent paintings - leaving Eden, daily rage (from newspaper headlines), the Iraqi war, and businessmen with animal heads. The exhibit runs from January 19 to March 24, 2008, at the Sophienholm in Copenhagen. Isaac-Rose was the only American invited this year. Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud, and Kitaj were among the other artists invited from the UK. Here is the link to the Corner Exhibit (in English) home page. To see Edith’s artwork, click here.
