Everyone who’s lived a life has multiple stories to tell, but fashioning those stories into a memoir involves much more than a recitation of events. So how do you get from a good dinner-party or social media anecdote into a dynamic, publishable piece of art?

This workshop is designed to explore the life experiences that have shaped and defined you and to help you unearth the universal themes and narrative arcs in your story. Through a variety of creative prompts, practical techniques and brief readings of published works, we will cover structure, voice, characterization, plot, tension, pacing, description and dialogue and how—as in fiction—these elements are all essential in crafting a compelling memoir. The small group environment creates a safe and supportive space allowing for group interaction as well as individual guidance and feedback. Bring something you've been working on, an idea you wish to develop, or simply come willing to explore. All levels, including beginners, are welcome.
